Paneer Tikka: A Quick and Delicious Indian Side Dish

Paneer Tikka is a popular Indian side dish, prepared from marinating paneer (cottage cheese) chunks with spices and yogurt and grilled in a Tandoor (Indian clay oven) or Tawa. Traditionally, it is grilled in a tandoor, but you can make the same version in the oven.

Servings: 3

  • 1 ½ cup thick yogurt
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 ½ tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 3 tsp ginger – garlic paste
  • ½ tsp carom seeds
  • 3 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt as per your taste
  • 3 tsp oil
  • 3 Onions – cubed
  • ½ red and green bell peppers – cubed
  • 15 cubes paneer (cottage cheese)

Step – 1 Marinade

Add all the ingredients to the yogurt- ginger garlic paste, carom seeds, turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder and salt.

Step – 2

Add in lemon juice and whisk to combine everything.

Step – 3

Add in the paneer cubes, onion and bell peppers. Mix well until all the pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate the mixture for about 1 hour.

Arrange paneer, onion and peppers alternatively on a skewer. Meanwhile, pre-heat the oven to 450 F degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step – 5

Line up all skewers on a baking sheet lined on parchment paper: coat paneer, onions and bell peppers with oil (you may use an oil spray).

Step – 6

Bake for 10 minutes and then broil for about 2 to 3 minutes until paneer pieces look a little charred.

Step – 7

Remove from the oven and serve it immediately.
